Chairman National Disaster Management Authority meets Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir
Islamabad: The Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Dr. Zafar Qadir called upon the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhary Abdul Majid. The meeting discussed disaster management mechanism in AJ and K.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister AJ and K, Chaudhary Abdul Majid said that the terrible earthquake of 2005 caused considerable damage to private and public infrastructure in AJ and K. He said that various projects are still underway in the context of the quake.
Chaudhary Abdul Majid lauded the support of the government of Pakistan in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of AJ and K and expressed hope that this help will continue till the achievement of this goal.
The Chairman NDMA, Dr. Zafar Qadir said that NDMA has the mandate to devise pre-emptive policies for the management of disasters like earthquake and floods and formulate policies to mitigate loses in wake of calamities. He said that NDMA is ready to include Muzaffarabad in its disaster related projects.
Dr. Zafar Qadir informed the Prime Minister AJK about NDMA’s initiative to arrange comprehensive insurance cover for the vulnerable sections of society and funds are being arranged for this project. He said that the federal government and all the provincial governments are pitching in efforts for this programme. The Chairman NDMA assured Prime Minister, AJ and K of the fullest support of his organization in the promotion of disaster awareness in the area.
