China has strongly condemned the visit by speaker of US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, branding it ‘extremely dangerous’ and a threat to regional stability.

In a statement, Chinese foreign ministry said this visit has a severe impact on China-U.S. relations as it seriously infringes upon China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Meanwhile, China has put its military on high alert to launch “targeted military operations” in response to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

This was announced by Chinese defence ministry in a statement in Beijing.
