A committee has been formed to address the reservations of stakeholders on Pakistan Media Development Authority.
It was decided in a meeting between Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain and media representatives.
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib was also present on the occasion.
The meeting discussed issues relating to media regulations and PMDA.
It was agreed that the committee will address the issue of fake news particularly on social media, the rights of media workers and ways to further improve laws and regulatory framework.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Pakistan Broadcasting Association, All Pakistan Newspapers Society Council, Pakistan Newspaper Editors, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors.
Meanwhile, representatives of All Pakistan Newspapers and Editors Forum, Newspapers and Periodical Association, PFUJ Professionals, Fourth Pillar Vigilant Media Watchdog and All Pakistan News Papers Employees Confederation.
Issues pertaining to formation of joint action committee comprising of representatives of government and media organizations were discussed in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Information said consultations are underway regarding PMDA bill.
He said media organizations praised government for taking steps to stop fake news and protecting media workers.
