Data collected by Benazir Income Support Programme through Poverty survey would be beneficial for poverty alleviation: Ms. Farzana Raja
Islamabad: The data gathered as a result of poverty survey conducted by Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) would be an important tool available for all the local as well as international community aiming at poverty alleviation in Pakistan. Thus, this data would actually be instrumental in bridging the gap between the international development community and the people of Pakistan. Ms. Farzana Raja, Chairperson BISP said this while talking to a delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) here at BISP Secretariat Saturday.
The delegation was led by Michiel Van der Auwera while Secretary BISP and Omer Bin Zia, representative of ADB, were also present on the occasion. Chairperson BISP informed the delegation regarding various initiatives of BISP aiming at poverty alleviation. She said that poverty survey in FATA is also being launched and polio awareness campaign would also be launched in the area along with the survey. Under this campaign, health officials accompanying survey teams will administer polio drops to the children of the region.
Ms. Farzana Raja said that BISP has adopted E-systems to ensure transparency at its affairs at all levels. In this regard, she said, delivery mechanisms have also been improved by introducing state of the art technology i.e. Mobile Phone Banking and Benazir Smart Card. Besides, the details of beneficiary families and the payments are also available on the website of BISP. She said that BISP is in the process of introducing additional conditional cash grant linked with education.
Earlier, the delegation appreciated the fact that BISP has achieved remarkable success in a short span of time and have catered for the needs of flood-victims as well. The members of the delegation agreed that by combating with poverty, BISP is actually helping out global community in its fight against terrorism as poverty is one of the causes that fuel the terrorism. The possibilities of mutual cooperation between BISP and ADB also came under discussion during the meeting.
