San Francisco (IINA) – The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA), in association with Meet a Muslim, People Acting in Community Together, and Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice, on Saturday convened a Unity Rally, in support of the Muslim community.
Hosted by as many as 131 different organizations, the rally was attended by 1,000 people in support of the Muslim community, showcasing a pluralistic alternative to the white supremacist and Islamophobic March Against Sharia” in Santa Clara.
We were inspired to see hundreds of people, including clergy and elected officials from all faith backgrounds, join this afternoon’s Unity Rally, said CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo. That our event outnumbered the anti-Muslim protestors more than twenty-to-one sends a strong message about the Silicon Valley and this region’s rejection of hate.
People are hungry to come together and speak a word of love and unity. We did that today, and it was beautiful, said Multifaith Voices for Peace & Justice Convener Rev. Diana Gibson. We stand with our Muslims friends and neighbors. The fibers of our community are strong.
