Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari announced that the losses of Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have been significantly reduced due to the proactive measures taken by the government. During a news conference held in Islamabad, he highlighted that the losses, which amounted to five hundred and ninety-one billion rupees in the fiscal year 2023-24, have now decreased to three hundred and ninety-nine billion rupees. This reduction was achieved through improved recoveries and the control of power pilferage.
According to Radio Pakistan, Sardar Awais Leghari affirmed the government’s commitment to further reducing the DISCOs’ losses. He stressed the government’s focus on enhancing the performance of these companies by appointing Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and board members based on merit.
The Minister reiterated the importance of continuing these efforts to ensure the financial health of the power sector. He emphasized the role of strategic appointments and stringent measures in achieving the current reduction in losses, signaling the government’s ongoing resolve to address the challenges faced by DISCOs.
