ECP terms DAWN news story as contrary to facts based

The Election Commission of Pakistan has termed a news story appeared in the English daily DAWN, claiming that 1.3 million people will not be able to exercise their right to vote, as contrary to the facts based on wrong information.

In a statement on Friday, the commission clarified that a voter is registered as per permanent or current address on the Computerized National Identity Card, which has nothing to do with the population statistics. It said census is made on the basis of physical residence at a particular place, whereas a voter is registered as per address on the CNIC.

The ECP further said that it has de-frozen the electoral lists to ensure registration of all eligible voters, which will continue till 25th of this month. It said the commission obtained the data of all the 800,000 CNIC holders from the National Database and Registration Authority on the first of this month. However, voter registration of all the people, who get their CNICs till 25th, will be ensured.
