Fining motorists not punitive measure but to ensure safety of road user: Senior Superintendent of Police
Islamabad: Islamabad Traffic police (ITP) has become model of excellence through its service-oriented policies and further endeavoring to come up to the expectations of the general public through ensuring traffic discipline in the city.
“All officials of ITP have been directed to endeavour to further enhance the image of the force, behave politely with the citizens and ensure strict implementation on traffic rules,” SSP (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood here on Monday while reviewing a report about the performance of ITP during the last five months.
Dr. Moeen said ITP has got the image of corruption free and people friendly force through hard work of its staff and the curse of corruption has been eliminated from its roots in this organization.
He said that ITP provided help to thousands of motorists deserted on road due to some mechanical or other problems during the year 2011. The SSP (Traffic) further said the force succeeded to introduce an exemplary traffic system in the Capital and managed to reduce fatal road accidents and non-fatal road accidents significantly during this year.
He said elimination of VIP culture and equal application of law are the operational codes of the ITP which has become the model of excellence for all law enforcement agencies in the country.
He said driving school of ITP is imparting standardized driving education and thousands of people have obtained driving training from the driving school so far.
Regarding the action by ITP officials on roads, the SSP said steps like issuance of challan tickets, cancellation of driving licenses and route permit were not taken as punitive measures but the objective is to ensure road discipline in the capital.
He said that ITP is also taking action against the public transport vehicles not completing the routes and overcharging the commuters. The purpose is to provide better transport facilities to the general public, the SSP said and asked the masses to lodge their complaints at Traffic Help Line 1915 in case of route incompletion by PSVs and smoking by the drivers or conductors.
SSP (Traffic) appealed the citizens to inform the traffic helpline 1915 if they witnessed any of the above violation during their every day travel in public service vehicles, enabling the ITP to take strict action against the violators well in time.
Dr. Moeen Masood said that ITP FM Radio 92.4 is also imparting education about traffic rules and air important messages from time to time to aware public about traffic related issues. He said that education wing of ITP is also playing active rule to educate road users along with traffic volunteers.
