Government redressing gross violations of human rights
Islamabad: The Advisor to Prime Minister on Human Rights, Mr. Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar held a meeting with a delegation comprising Mr. Rober Tinline, Head of Consular Assistance, Foreign and Commonwealth Office London accompanied by Mr. David Grahame, Consular Regional Director for South Asia, Sheena Lavery, Consul, British High Commission, Islamabad and Albert.
In the meeting, the Advisor briefed the delegation about the proactive and dynamic role of the ministry in redressing the gross violations of human rights.
He highlighted the recent developments, initiatives, and measures taken by the Ministry of Human Rights for protection and safeguard of human rights. He specifically mentioned his role in removing reservations on ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights) and CAT (Convention Against Torture) which are essential for creating a spirit of a good will in the World Community and implementation of these two instruments in letter and spirit.
He also pointed out different legislative bills e.g. NCHR (National Commission on Human Rights), NCW (National Commission on Women), Women in Distress and Detention Fund Bill) protection of human rights which are to be tabled in the upcoming session of National Assembly which shows the sincerity and commitment of the government.
He also threw light on issues like violation of fundamental rights, violence against women and children, unlawful detention of common people, etc.
The British delegation appreciated the efforts of the Ministry and the Advisor for promoting respect for human rights in Pakistan. They assured of their continued support and cooperation in the cause of human rights.
