Government to Channelize the Indigenous Investment Secretary Industries, Aziz Ahmad Bilour

Islamabad: Aziz Ahmad Bilour, Federal Secretary Ministry of Industries has said that the government is trying to tap the huge indigenous investment available in Pakistan and making efforts to ensure that the investors are convinced to invest money in the productive sectors rather than investing abroad or in the real estate. This he said while talking to a delegation of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) led by its President Syed Ali Raza. Senior Vice President Mian Ateeq, Vice President Dr. Shimail Daud, former president Sheikh Shabbir and member executive committee Younas Dar were also present on the occasion.

Mr. Bilour said that though the Pakistani industry had been through difficult times during the past few years, yet it showed resilience and now there are clear signs of improvement in the industrial sector. He said that considering the industrial potential of this region the government will look into the proposal to establish Special Economic Zone in the region to promote cluster industry.

The Secretary apprised the delegation that the Government is well of the problems of energy deficiency currently face by the industry and assured them that this shortage will be considerably reduced as the energy import and production projects will mature in the near future. He ensured the delegation that the business community will be taken on board in the policy making process and all the positive proposals from the business community will be incorporated in the future scheme of things.

Talking at the occasion, Mr. Ali Raza, President RCCI, said that the liaison between the Ministry of Industries and RCCI has been very productive and fruitful in the past. He proposed that there is a need to establish an Export Processing Zone in the RCCI Industrial Estate in Rawat which can add value to the product produced in the region. He said that there is a well established industry of furniture, pharmaceuticals, gems and jewellery, steel, marble, wheat products and garments in the region which need government support to flourish and expand. For this purpose, the RCCI established and maintained a Research and Design Section which helps the industry to follow modern techniques of production to improve their products, he added.
