Islamabad, The Federal Minister for National Food Security, Rana Tanveer Hussain, announced plans to digitalize the registration system for pesticides and improve the fumigation process as part of a broader strategy to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Plant Protection Department. During a briefing by Dr. Tariq Khan, DG of Plant Protection, the minister emphasized the critical role of the department in the agriculture sector and outlined measures to raise its operational standards.
According to Press Information Department, Minister Hussain stressed the government’s commitment to promoting merit and transparency within the department, with a zero-tolerance policy for corruption and inefficiency. The digitalization of the pesticide registration system is intended to streamline operations and enhance transparency. Additionally, the development of the department on modern lines will include addressing staff shortages and expanding the number of fumigation companies to improve overall service delivery.
The minister also highlighted the need for an effective inspection system for rice and mango plants to ensure the quality of exports. Inspections will be conducted timely, and exporters will receive support within legal frameworks, although compromises on quality and standards will not be accepted. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive strategy to boost agricultural exports by improving departmental functions and ensuring high standards in plant protection and pest control.
