Governor Sindh Highlights Press Freedom and Journalists’ Rights in Meeting with ITNE Delegation

Karachi: Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori emphasized the critical role of the journalism sector in the democratic development of the country and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring press freedom and protecting journalists’ rights. During a meeting with a delegation led by Shahid Mahmood Khokhar, Chairman of the Implementation Tribunal Newspapers Employees (ITNE), at the Governor’s House, Tesori discussed various issues affecting the journalism community and pledged to address their welfare concerns.

According to Sindh Governor House, the meeting included union officials from various newspapers and other prominent figures. Governor Tesori assured attendees of his ongoing efforts to support journalistic institutions and maintain constant communication with the federal government to address journalists’ issues. He underscored the government’s responsibility to ensure the welfare of everyone associated with journalism.

In response to a request from ITNE Chairman Khokhar, Governor Tesori committed to engaging newspaper owners about implementing the minimum wage law to secure rights for journalists and other newspaper employees. Khokhar highlighted the tribunal’s establishment in 1975 with the objective of safeguarding employees’ rights and noted that over 250 pending petitions had been resolved under his leadership. He praised the initiatives under Governor Tesori’s patronage as unmatched in Pakistan. The meeting was also attended by officials from the Karachi Union of Journalists and other media representatives.
