The National Assembly resumed its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad this evening with Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in the chair.
The House was informed that the government has allocated a huge fund to provide subsidized seeds to farmers in flood affected areas of the country.
Responding to a question during the Question Hour in the House on Wednesday, Parliamentary Secretary on National Food Security and Research Ahmad Raza Maneka said the federal government has asked the provinces to cooperate to facilitate farmers.
The Parliamentary Secretary said the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council is imparting scientific knowledge to farmers to enhance agriculture production. He said the prime objective of PARC is to promote research in the agriculture sector. He said PARC is consistently arranging seminars and symposiums to create awareness in farmers regarding scientific upgradation in the agriculture sector.
Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir Khan says the government has provided a relief of sixty six billion rupees to electricity consumers by waiving off Fuel Adjustment Charges in August and September.
Responding to a calling attention notice regarding electricity price hike, he said fuel adjustment charges have reduced from 9.89 rupees to only 22 paisas per unit in the month of August. He said the government has exempted the agriculture tube wells from FAC.
The Minister said the government has decided not to use imported fuel for electricity generation to reduce the production cost. He said the government will now focus on producing electricity through indigenous resources such as solar, wind, hydel, nuclear and Thar coal.
Khurram Dastgir said the Thar Coal Project will start generating 1320 megawatts by December this year. He said this project will start producing 2640 megawatts before next summer.
The House will now meet again at 11 am on Thursday.
