Illicit timber seized from Indian army vehicle in Handwara

Srinagar, March 10, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, forest officials have seized illicit timber worth lakhs of rupees from an Indian Army vehicle in Kupwara district.

The forest officials of Langate Forest division have seized illicit timber worth lakhs of rupees from the Army vehicle at Zachaldara in Handwara area of the district.

“After specific inputs that troops belonging to 21 RR of Zachaldara camp are loading illicit timber logs of famed Deodar, our team reached Galgaza Zachaldara forest compartment No-8 and found the inputs true. Officials tried to seize the Army vehicle but troops raised objections and threatened officials of dire consequences,“ Towheed Ahmad Deva, Divisional Forest Officer Langate, told mediamen.

“Still our officials managed to seize the illicit timber which was being loaded into the Army vehicle after felling a green Deodar tree in the compartment. We will lodge an FIR against the said unit in police station Handwara,” the DFO added.
