Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, Lahore University of Management Sciences, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry organise conference on strengthening Indo-Pak economic cooperation and trade
Lahore, January 15, 2013 (PPI-OT): Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) jointly organised a Roundtable Conference on strengthening Indo-Pak economic cooperation and trade. The conference was held on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
The conference aimed at preparing a working paper for the future guidelines of the key decision makers of the two countries. Pakistani and Indian delegates representing various business chambers, government departments and research organisations attended the conference.
The key speakers, included ICRIER Director Rajat Kathuria, Deputy Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay, LCCI President Farooq Iftikhar, Ministry of Commerce Joint Secretary Rubeena Athar, former finance minister Dr. Salman Shah and Economics Professor LUMS and International Growth Centre Country Director Ijaz Nabi. The lead moderators of the roundtable were Usman Khan, Faculty of Economics, LUMS; Indian Professor Dr. Nisha Taneja and Atindra Sen (DG Mumbai Chamber of Commerce).
The Department of Economics at LUMS played a major role in organising this conference and bridging collaboration with ICRIER to develop joint research on Indo-Pak economic cooperation and to conduct high powered conferences and seminars. In September 2012, LUMS also signed an ‘Agreement of Collaboration’ with ICRIER.
