Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan Encourages Public Private Interactions for Promotion of IP Education: Afridi
Islamabad: The Chairman Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO) Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has said that public and private sector should come forward to share their opinion and expertise for dissemination of knowledge and awareness about the adherence of IP rights in the country.
He stated this while addressing the in-augural ceremony of one day seminar on the basics of IP rights held at Iqra University, Islamabad on Thursday.
Mr. Afridi said that economic relations are now increasingly playing an important role in defining the bilateral relations along-with the global positioning of the nation. He said that government with the support of private sector trying to promote market based education and training facilities in the country which would enable the young generation as well as innovators to get benefit and update their knowledge to excel in this field.
He said that IPR awareness sessions in Pakistan are primarily aimed at bringing together the convictions, skills and views, in an effort to muster up the strength required to struggle against these socio-economic IPR crimes which are not only hurting the national industrial growth, spoiling the image of brands but also emasculates the consumers rights for original product.
He said that in Pakistan, academia has lot of potential of IP creation, the only thing we need is to aware the researchers about the importance of their creations and their protection. In present era, there is dire need to have sound knowledge about economic issues and well established Research and Development are the only way-out for sustainable development.
Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi said that solid steps has been adopted to upgrade the service delivery system of IPO and besides modernizing the automation of registries, latest training facilities were also being providing to the concerned officers and staff for capacity building and educating them with latest advancement in different subjects of IP.
He said that a comprehensive program has been launched in which the students of different universities of the country would be trained in different areas of Intellectual Property Rights. Mr. Afridi appreciated the management of Iqra University for introducing the IP subject in the course and assured that efforts would be made to introduce IPR subjects in the syllabus of the universities.
He said that IP education is directly linked with the economic development and students can avail the opportunities of higher studies besides having a bright career in this field. The Chairman IPO said that we will also consider foreign visits of universities faculty members and students having academic excellence in the field of IP.
Dr. Jamil Ahmed Vice President Iqra University presenting welcome address and appreciated the role of IPO-Pakistan for promotion and strengthening of IP regime in the country and assured all possible cooperation for organizing seminars and other academic activities relating to IP education with active involvement of students as well as faculties. Earlier Dr. Ijaz A. Qureshi, Head of Management Science Department briefed about the details of seminar and said students are enthusiastically participating in IPR education and eager to learn latest advancement in the field of IP. Later Ms. Shakra Khursheed, Assistant Director, IPO and Ms. Saima Kanwal, Patent Examiner gave detailed presentations about IPRs.
