Karachi, December 22, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), while strongly reacting and expressing serious reservations over Chaudhry Nisar’s remarks about illegal SIMs at a recent press conference which tantamount to compromising lives, vociferously urged the government to stringently direct all mobile phone service providers to immediately shut down all prepaid SIMs and reissue them to subscribers’ postal addresses.

Referring to Chaudhry Nisar’s press conference in which the Minister indicated that terrorists are preparing to strike again and called upon the mobile phone companies to desist from issuing illegal SIMs, the Karachi Chamber said that it has been observed and proven time and again that all terrorists’ activities, including the Peshawar School Carnage which terribly wounded the hearts of the entire nation, were carried out with the help of illegal prepaid SIMs.

The Karachi Chamber has been constantly demanding shutdown of all prepaid SIMs for more than 6 years. In this regard, Chairman Businessmen Group and Former President KCCI, Siraj Kassam Teli raised this particular issue in front of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif during meetings held at Governor House on 3rd September 2013 and 10th July, 2014 while the same demand was once again raised by BMG Chairman when Prime Minister visited Karachi to attend KCCI Export Trophy Awards on March 14, 2014.

Moreover, BMG Leadership and KCCI Office Bearers have been reiterating the demand to shut down all prepaid SIMs in front of all Heads of Law Enforcing Agencies during their meetings on various occasions whereas dozens of press statements along with letters to the concerned authorities including Prime Minister, Federal and Provincial Interior Ministries, Heads of various Law Enforcing Agencies have been issued but to no avail.

Furthermore, it is pertinent to mention here that Chairman Businessmen Group and Former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli along with Ex-officio Abdullah Zaki and Chairmen of all six town associations presented a letter to Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on 10th July, 2014 along with copy of a resolution containing the demand to shut down all prepaid SIMs, which was duly signed by all town associations and KCCI but unfortunately no attention has been given to this pressing and rightful demand.

We quote the statement of Chairman BMG, Siraj Kassam Teli given many a times on various occasions, “Over 70 percent of crimes of all kinds and terrorists activities take place using mobile phones and the only solution is to shut down all the prepaid Sims in one go and get them reissued to their postal addresses as per CNIC through courier services.

“It will surely get rid of all those SIMs which were illegally issued and this process can be done in just three days as the mobile companies are fully computerized. We have noticed that these companies are providing other solutions which actually are not perfect and are kind of delaying tactics meanwhile people are dying. This is the only solution, until and unless this is done, the crimes will continue.

“We simply do not understand whether lives are more important or the businesses of these mobile companies.” “We once again appeal to the Prime Minister to order these companies to get our demand implemented with immediate effect in the form mentioned above”, Siraj Teli added.
