Karachi Electric Supply Company condemns continuing union attacks, demands due protection
Karachi: Karachi Electric Supply Company has condemned continuing trouble and attacks by union miscreants in spite of the government’s assurances and the orders of Sindh High Court to provide due protection to employees, offices and installations of the utility. KESC has demanded of the authorities and law enforcement agencies to carry out their responsibilities in the larger interest of the rule of law.
On July 11, a group of union miscreants, armed with automatic weapons, attacked repair and maintenance teams at fault locations of 132kV Dhabeji/BOC and forced them to stop work. They damaged three transmission vehicles and one extra high tension vehicle. Two outsourced vehicles and a crane fitted truck were also damaged in the attack. They manhandled the members of maintenance teams hurting them badly. Drivers of the vehicles were also injured in the attack. The attackers also snatched transmission line repair tools delaying the process of repair work.
On July 8, four PMTs were damaged by the firing of miscreants in Qasba Colony, causing outages in the linked areas and putting financial burden to the utility. These PMTs were: Haji Saeed PMT-500kva; Pole 4-500kva; Pole 103-250kva; and, Muslimabad PMT-250kva.
KESC said that such attacks plus the continuing besieging of the utility’s main offices at State Life Building at Abdullah Haroon Road, Power House at Elandar Road, Central Stores, Transformers Workshop, dozens of BOCs, complaint and maintenance centres and other business and operation offices and installations were a challenge to the writ of the government which had yet to prove its presence by providing effective and due protection in order to provide threat-free atmosphere to the employees of the utility.
