Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary directs implementation measures to beautify Peshawar
Peshawar, January 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Muhammad Shehzad Arbab chaired a high level meeting regarding beautification of Peshawar at the committee room of civil secretariat Peshawar on Monday. All the concerned administrative secretaries and other officers attended the meeting.
During the meeting implementation progress on the proposed measures for making Peshawar clean and green were discussed in detail. The Chief Secretary expressed concern over delay in some of the developmental measures and strictly directed for implementing the same without wasting any further time.
He also took serious notice of some pending issues regarding the Peshawar Uplift Programme of the OTI USAID and stated that action would be taken against those quarters who failed to finalize their task on the subject within the stipulated time.
The CS directed for evolving such a district mechanism where all the provincial government plans regarding beautification of the provincial metropolis done for the larger interests of the people. He said due to heavy traffic load, irregular construction and in proper procedure for making Peshawar clean and green city had been affected badly.
The Chief Secretary was briefed in detail on the motorway GT road junction and the Pir Zakori road and was told that work on the same project had been initiated. Moreover, designs had been shared with the PDA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highway Authority for the purpose.
It was stated that design and ideas were being generated for constructing security gates. He was told that hiring of consultants had been finalized for pedestrian plan of Peshawar which would be approved within this week.
The meeting also took decisions on the rehabilitation and development of green belts in Peshawar and was told that 60 per cent of work had been done in this regard and efforts had been made for closing all the unnecessary U-turns on the ring road.
The Chief Secretary was told that work on tiff tiles on the Pir Zakori Bridge had been completed. Moreover, it was disclosed that work was in progress on the construction of footpaths and installation of traffic signals to be completed soon.
The meeting was also told that public toilets costing Rs. 20 millions each would be constructed at Saddar Bazar, University of Peshawar, Kohat Bus Stand, Kabuli Bazaar, Karkhano, Bagh Naran and Arbab Niaz Stadium. Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary also chaired a meeting with the sports and tourism department and reviewed the progress of work on the reforms initiatives so far proposed in the sports and tourism sectors. The Chief Secretary directed for expediting implementation work without any delay.
