ISLAMABAD: The mercy petitions of nineteen convicts involved in the May 9 cases have been approved on humanitarian grounds, in accordance with legal protocols, as announced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to Radio Pakistan, the ISPR released a statement today confirming that these individuals will be released after the completion of procedural formalities. The convicts retain the right to appeal and pursue other legal remedies as stipulated by law and the constitution. The remission of their punishments is portrayed as a testament to the strength and fairness of the judicial process, ensuring justice while considering principles of compassion and mercy.
The ISPR further clarified that a total of sixty-seven convicts submitted mercy petitions. The remaining petitions will be addressed in due time, following the established legal procedures. The individuals whose punishments have been remitted include Muhammad Ayaz, Sami Ullah, Laeeq Ahmed, Amjad Ali, Yasir Nawaz, Said Alam, Zahid Khan, Muhammad Suleman, Hamza Sharif, Muhammad Salman, Asher Butt, Muhammad Waqas, Sufayan Idrees, Muneeb Ahmed, Muhammad Ahmed, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Bilawal, and Muhammad Ilyas.
