Minister Sets Ambitious Revenue Goals for Pakistan Post

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications, Privatization and Board of Investment Abdul Aleem Khan has tasked Pakistan Post with increasing its revenue to Rs. 14 billion by June 30. He has also mandated a transformation of Pakistan Post into a competitive world-class courier company.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the minister outlined these directives during a review meeting attended by senior officials, including the Federal Secretary for Communications and the Director General of Pakistan Post. Khan emphasized the need for Pakistan Post to modernize its framework and leverage professional skills to compete with the private sector, thereby ensuring the institution’s sustainability.

Khan highlighted recent positive developments within Pakistan Post, referencing an improved business model that has yielded a 23.5 percent increase in revenue compared to the previous year. He urged the organization to continue this trajectory by cutting unnecessary expenses and implementing austerity measures to secure employee jobs.

The minister also called for the digitalization of Pakistan Post’s operations to meet modern demands, suggesting that a robust marketing strategy could enhance profitability. He instructed the Director General to draft a new business plan within a week for further discussion.

During the meeting, it was revealed that Pakistan Post is pursuing a three-point strategy to boost performance, which includes cost reduction and service enhancement. Initiatives to generate new business worth Rs. 1.4 billion, alongside cost-saving measures expected to save Rs. 2.4 billion, were reported. The collection of arrears and renting out post office properties were also noted as revenue-increasing strategies. Khan expressed satisfaction with these efforts but stressed the need for continued progress and innovation.
