Islamabad: The Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights, Azam Nazir Tarar, has announced the imminent establishment of the National Commission for the Rights of Minorities. The commission aims to provide an independent platform to address grievances and promote inclusivity for minority communities.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Tarar made the announcement during a Christmas celebration event in Islamabad. He stated that the draft of the commission has been formulated in consultation with minority representatives from Parliament and civil society and has received approval from the cabinet committee. The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a balanced representation of minorities and non-minorities in Pakistan.
Tarar highlighted the constitutional provisions that affirm Pakistan’s identity as a shared homeland for all its citizens, underscoring the collective identity and pride of being Pakistani. He also took the opportunity to express solidarity with the people of Palestine during his address.
