Mirwaiz demands probe into unmarked graves in IHK
Srinagar, January 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has demanded a probe into unmarked graves in the territory by an international agency to unravel the truth.
The APHC Chairman in a media interview in Srinagar said that the reports of presence of 60 more unmarked graves in Budgam district were shocking and the total number of such graves in the territory had crossed 6,000. He said that the puppet administration had dithered on conducting DNA tests so far, adding, “There should be a probe by an international agency as the administration has failed to deliver on this issue.”
The Mirwaiz while condemning the awarding of life-sentences to innocent Kashmiris said that it was irony that those who were being acquitted by the courts were being re-framed in one or the other case.
The APHC Chairman commenting on the recent border tension between Pakistan and India said that such situations would continue till resolution of the Kashmir dispute, which was the root cause of all issues between the two countries. He urged Islamabad and New Delhi to take steps for settlement of the lingering dispute.
He maintained that the war was no solution, as it would bring destruction in view of the fact that both countries possessed nuclear weapons. He called upon New Delhi to withdraw its troops from the occupied territory to create a conducive atmosphere for resolution of the dispute through meaningful dialogue.
The Mirwaiz said that the Hurriyet leadership was never against dialogue with India but a conducive atmosphere must be created for talks. “We have always been for meaningful dialogue. Hurriyet Conference took the initiative way back in 2004.
We met Indian Prime Minister and others. During these meetings on all tracks we had given suggestions to the Government of India for making atmosphere conducive, but it is very sad that not a single suggestion has been considered till date.” he stated.
On the incidents of killing of panchayat members in the territory, the Mirwaiz said, the APHC does not support any killing on the basis of political ideology, whether it is a pro-India leader, activist, or a Sarpanch.
“Our concern is that whenever these killings take place without investigation the government blames the pro-freedom groups. Kashmir history has proven that killings have taken place at the behest of Indian agencies. We cannot give clean chit to everybody so the investigation mechanism has to be much more credible and transparent,” he added.
