Islamabad: The nation is celebrating Independence Day today with national zeal and fervour, renewing its pledge to work with the spirit of the Pakistan Movement to transform the country into a true Islamic welfare state. The day began with a thirty-one gun salute in the Federal Capital and a twenty-one gun salute at provincial headquarters. Special prayers were offered in mosques after Fajr prayer for the peace, solidarity, and prosperity of the country.
According to Radio Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari will hoist the national flag at a special ceremony in the Federal Capital. Similar flag hoisting ceremonies are also taking place at provincial, divisional, and district headquarters across the country. Buildings, streets, markets, and public places have been adorned with national flags, buntings, and colourful lights, creating a festive atmosphere in towns and cities.
A wide array of programs, including seminars, exhibitions, cultural events, and other activities, have been organized to commemorate Independence Day with traditional zeal and fervour. These programs aim to highlight the sacrifices of the nation's forefathers. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has released a national song titled 'Mera Pyara Watan Pakistan' on the occasion, with lyrics that reflect a deep love for the motherland and national unity.
Radio Pakistan will also broadcast special programmes in connection with Independence Day, focusing on the services of the heroes of the Pakistan Movement and paying tribute to their extraordinary contributions to making Pakistan a reality. Independence Day celebrations are also taking place in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with zeal and zest. The day began with a 21-gun salute in the state capital, Muzaffarabad, and special prayers were offered after the Fajr prayer for peace, solidarity, prosperity, and the early liberation of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Flag hoisting ceremonies are being held in all districts of AJK, and the AJK Prime Minister is expected to lay a floral wreath at the Shuhada monument.
