National Disaster Management Authority takes National and International Media to the Flood Affected Areas

Islamabad: To apprise national and international media about the current situation in the flood hit areas of Sindh, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) arranged a visit of national, international media personnel, UN officials and other government functionaries to Sanghar district and Mirpur Khas district. The delegation included the Chairman NDMA, Dr. Zafar Qadir, UN Humanitarian Coordinator Timo Pakkala, Secretary Works and Services Arif A. Khan, DG PDMA, Sohail Akbar Shah, national and international media teams and NDMA/UN officials.

In the course of their visit to UC Barani in Sanghar district, the delegation met Shazia Marri, Sindh Provincial Minister for Information. She welcomed the delegation and appreciated the concern initiative of NDMA to bring media and other stakeholders to the flood hit areas. Responding to a question of the media, Shazia Marri said that people of the area require shelter as there is still water in the area.

The Chairman NDMA, Dr. Zafar Qadir briefed the media about the details of relief provided to the flood affectees. The Chairman inquired from the affectees about the provision of food items. The affectees highly appreciated the support of the government of Pakistan and NDMA.

The delegation visited flood relief camp named Paran which is managed by Pak Army. The incharge of the camp Brig. Rashid conducted the trip. The Chairman NDMA distributed bags among the children of the school established in the camp. The delegation also paid a visit to the vocational training center and distributed sewing machines among the best female trainees.

At the last leg of the tour, the delegation visited Mirpur Khas and met affected populace.
