National Peace Campaign planned to promote inter-religious harmony: Akram Gill

Islamabad: Ministry of Interfaith Harmony and Minority Affairs has planned to launch National Peace Campaign in order to promote inter-religious harmony.

This was stated by Minister of State for Interfaith Harmony and Minority Affairs Akram Masih Gill in a meeting with Ambassador of France Daniel Jouanneau who called on him here on Thursday.

The minister said Pakistan is striving to promote inter-religious harmony, human rights, social justice, sustainable development and gender equality while helping the communities to gain access to these social development factors.

The minister discussed the way with the Ambassador that how international community can extend help to the ministry to make the National Peace Campaign successful as dialogue, trust and tolerance can materialize the dream of peace and love.

The minister said the government is already working development and welfare projects for the minorities in the country despite economic constraints as 5 percent quota has been fixed in jobs, 4 seats have been reserved in the Senate and 11 August is celebrated as Minority Day every year.

He expressed firm commitment to continue efforts aimed at promoting interfaith harmony, and creating understanding and accommodation among different societies.

In current national scenario the need to promote moderation, tolerance and inter-faith harmony, eliminating the menace of terrorism from the society is inevitable, he added.
