NDMA and KP Government Discuss Monsoon Preparedness in Virtual Meeting

Islamabad: On the directions of the Prime Minister, the National Disaster Management Authority today held a virtual session with the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to review monsoon preparedness.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting was convened via video link by the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Musadik Malik, and attended by Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik. Representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Aqibullah Khan and Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah.

Senior officials from NDMA, the Director General of PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, administrative secretaries, commissioners, deputy commissioners, and representatives of relevant provincial departments also participated. PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provided a comprehensive briefing on preparedness measures, contingency planning, resource deployment, and coordination arrangements across the province.

The session reviewed district-wise preparedness in areas susceptible to flash floods, riverine flooding, urban flooding, landslides, glacial lake outburst floods, and other monsoon-related emergencies. Particular attention was given to the readiness of district administrations, rescue services, emergency communication systems, relief stockpiles, and evacuation plans in high-risk areas.

The Federal Minister acknowledged the preparedness efforts of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and instructed all authorities to remain vigilant given evolving weather conditions. He highlighted the need for proactive planning, rapid response, and effective public awareness to mitigate the impact of hydro-meteorological hazards.

The meeting concluded with directions to conduct coordination meetings at the district and Union Council levels to further review preparedness, enhance local coordination, and ensure a timely response to any emergency situation during the Monsoon 2026.
