Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert, warning of increased river flows across the country till Sunday. According to Radio Pakistan, the Indus River is experiencing moderate flooding at Guddu, while low flood conditions continue at Kalabagh, Chashma, and Sukkur. Similarly, the Chenab River is likely to witness moderate to high flows at Marala, while low to moderate flows are forecast at Khanki and Qadirabad. Low to moderate flows have also been forecast in the Jhelum, Ravi, and Kabul rivers, as well as their associated streams and tributaries. A significant increase in water flows is expected in the streams and tributaries linked to the Jhelum, Chenab, and Ravi rivers. There is also a risk of heavy water flows in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur. Flash flooding is expected in several rain-fed streams and nullahs in the central and southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan. There is a likelihood of flooding in streams and nullahs i n the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa districts of Mohmand, Bajaur, Buner, Mardan, Kurram, South Waziristan, Shangla, and Peshawar. In northern Balochistan, flash flooding is also feared in the Nari, Bolan, Kangri, and Lehri rivers. There is a risk of urban flooding and inundation of low-lying areas in the Punjab districts of Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore, Okara, Sahiwal, and Faisalabad. Urban flooding and water accumulation in low-lying areas are also expected in the Sindh districts of Nawabshah, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, and Tharparkar. Urban flooding may also occur in cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Mardan. The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to areas that may be affected by flooding. During the monsoon, the risk of landslides, debris flows, and flash floods increases in mountainous areas. Water levels in seasonal streams and nullahs can rise suddenly during the monsoon. Tourists are advised to exercise caution in such areas and stay away from fast-flowing water. Travellers are advised to carry drinking water, dry food, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, a power bank, and emergency contact numbers. The public has also been advised to receive timely updates through the NDMA's official "Pak NDMA Disaster Alert" mobile application.
