Newly-elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir legislature reposes confidence in President Zardari
Islamabad: The newly elected PPP members of AJK legislature, while reposing full confidence in the leadership of Co-Chairman of PPP, today authorized the Co-Chairman to take decisions regarding the formation of the Government in AJK.
During meeting with the PPP members of AJK assembly here at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, chaired by Co-Chairman PPP President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the President congratulated the newly elected members and hoped that they would work for highlighting and addressing the real issues of their respective constituencies thus also promoting the cause of the Party to serve the poor and downtrodden all across the country.
The President said that as elected members of the legislative assembly they are expected to be aware of the real issues of the people and to do their best to provide relief to the people and address their issues. The Party, the President continued, was voted into power at a very critical time. The economy of the country was shattered by the inconsistencies of policies of the past and the ever-increasing toll of war against terror. The PPP comprehended the gravity of situation and by adopting reconciliation policy was able to garner clear-cut public support against the threat posed by militancy and terrorism. While successfully pursuing our struggle against militancy and terrorism, we steadfastly pursued reconciliation policy to take along all political forces of the country on board on issues of national importance, he said.
The President said we have a history of facing anti people forces but we have not and would never deviate from the path and goals set for us by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. He said that being in the Government the Party has faced all challenges from not only the political adversaries but also the political actors. Our victory, the President said, is a litmus test of our real popularity among the people and a clear vote of confidence on our progress so far.
He said that the convincing victory of the Party in the recent AJK elections reflects the confidence of the people on the Party and its policies—especially that of reconciliation which is the only way out to strengthen democracy in the country.
The President said that the Party and the Government has been doing its best to address the real issues of the country especially that of the poor and marginalized segments of society by all possible means. The President said that the Government successfully pleaded the case of Pakistan before the international community to assist the country overcome impacts of war against terror and the devastating floods. He said that the Party launched Benazir Income Support Program all across Pakistan to provide direct financial assistance to the poorest of the poor and to provide them necessary assistance to stabilize themselves financially. The President said that besides launching BISP which has gained the confidence of the international community also, we have also emphasized on providing relief to the people as our prime priority.
Calling upon the newly elected representatives to work hard in reaching out to the people of their respective constituencies, the President said that our real strength are the people of the country and not merely few groups. We have made our place by serving the poor of the country and being true representatives of the people of the country. The President assured the participants that Government would provide all possible assistance to the AJK Government in its effort to bring about qualitative socio-economic change in the lives of the people.
The President said that the government gives priority to the development of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and was focusing on early completion of all developmental projects in AJK. Various projects in AJK including recently inaugurated Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College at Mirpur, compensation to the Mangla Dam affectees, construction of dry port in Mirpur and establishment of Science and Technology university in Mirpur also came under discussion during the meeting.
The Party members from AJK thanked the Co-Chairman PPP President Asif Ali Zardari for reposing trust in them and assured that they would work hard for their people and would prove themselves to be the true representatives of their areas.

Latif Akber, Chaudhry Muhammad Rashid, Mr. Akber Ibrahim, Mr. Azhar Hussain Gilani and Mr. Abdul Salam Butt.
MNA Madam Faryal Talpur, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs, Syed Khursheed Shah, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Dr. Zaheeruddin Babar Awan, Senator Jahangir Badar, MNA Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Ms. Rukhsana Bangash were also present during the meeting.
