Islamabad: Pakistan and the Food and Agriculture Organization have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, livestock development, and food security.

According to Radio Pakistan, the commitment was made during a meeting between Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and an FAO delegation led by its Deputy Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, Robert Simpson, in Islamabad. Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted that despite Pakistan's negligible contribution to global carbon emissions, the country is among the most vulnerable to climate change.

The Minister emphasized the necessity for enhanced technical assistance and the timely implementation of ongoing projects. He also outlined the government's priorities, which include strengthening food safety and SPS systems, enhancing livestock exports, and reducing dependence on imported wheat and edible oil.

The FAO delegation assured the Minister of continued support for Pakistan in mobilizing funding from international financial institutions and development partners.
