Islamabad: Pakistan and Turkiye have taken a significant step towards enhancing judicial cooperation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two nations. The MoU was signed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, and President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, Kadir Ozkaya, during a ceremony held in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi emphasized that the MoU is more than just a document of cooperation; it represents a shared vision and commitment to strengthen constitutional governance, uphold the rule of law, ensure judicial independence, and protect fundamental rights. The MoU is designed to create a framework for collaboration between the judiciaries of Pakistan and Turkiye, focusing on the exchange of judicial knowledge and best practices, promotion of comparative constitutional jurisprudence, and the strengthening of institutional linkages.
Furthermore, the Chief Justice noted the importance of advancing capacity building through joint programs, research, and judicial exchanges. This collaboration is expected to foster mutual understanding and development in judicial practices between the two countries.
In his address, Kadir Ozkaya, President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, highlighted the depth of the relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye, which transcends ordinary diplomacy. He acknowledged the strong historical ties between the peoples of the two countries and emphasized that the MoU will serve to strengthen and renew the cooperation already established between their judicial institutions. Ozkaya praised the Supreme Court of Pakistan for its dedication to upholding constitutional principles and expressed confidence in the effectiveness of this collaboration, anticipating beneficial outcomes for both nations.
