Pakistan Assumes Chair of SCO-RATS, Pledges Regional Cooperation Against Terrorism

Islamabad: Pakistan today assumed the Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO-RATS).

According to Radio Pakistan, this development reflects the confidence of SCO member states in Pakistan’s efforts and contributions towards regional peace and security, particularly in combating terrorism.

In its role as the Chair of SCO-RATS, Pakistan aims to foster regional cooperation against terrorism, aligning with shared priorities and guided by the Shanghai Spirit of mutual trust, equality, and shared responsibility. Pakistan is set to host events and activities in key areas such as cyber counter-terrorism, information operations, border security, countering terrorist financing, and capacity-building to enhance collaboration.

Pakistan, as a frontline state in combating terrorism, has made sacrifices to ensure the safety and security of not only its own people but also the region and beyond.

Furthermore, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-26 term, Pakistan has been entrusted with significant responsibilities in the counter-terrorism domain, among others.

Pakistan remains committed to working with international and regional partners to advance collective efforts against terrorism, in line with the principles of the SCO, international law, and the United Nations Charter.
