Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan is committed to achieving the shared goal of completely eradicating polio. He was addressing a delegation from the Gates Foundation, which met with him in Islamabad today.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized that the national polio eradication programme receives the highest level of support. He expressed appreciation for the Gates Foundation's continued partnership in tackling Pakistan's development challenges. The Prime Minister acknowledged the Gates Foundation's significant contributions in areas such as polio eradication, health, nutrition, financial inclusion, and the welfare of vulnerable segments.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that digital payments, food security, maternal and newborn health, poverty alleviation, and climate change are key reform priorities under the government's governance reform agenda. He remarked that transitioning to a cashless economy is a vital part of the government's transformation agenda, aimed at simplifying people's lives, enhancing transparency, and ensuring timely and efficient delivery of government funds to deserving beneficiaries.

The Prime Minister noted that collaborative efforts by the government and the Gates Foundation are facilitating the expansion of digital payments. He underscored the importance of ensuring that deserving women receive financial assistance directly, securely, and with dignity. Additionally, he expressed his intent to collaborate with the Gates Foundation on targeted initiatives to promote women's financial inclusion and economic empowerment.

The meeting also explored ways to further bolster cooperation and partnership between Pakistan and the Gates Foundation. The delegation from the Gates Foundation included representatives Kalpana Kochhar and Anita Zaidi.
