Pakistan Customs Seizes 15.6 kg Gold and Foreign Currency worth Rs. 13.72 Crores

Islamabad: Pakistan Customs officials of Rawalpindi Collectorate foiled a bid to smuggle 15.6 kg. gold worth Rs. 8 Crores and foreign currency worth Rs. 13.72 Crores into Pakistan from Abu Dhabi, here today at Benazir International Airport Islamabad.

According to the details a passenger travelling from Abu Dhabi arrived at Benazir International Airport, Islamabad today at 0230, was intercepted at Green Channel by Customs authorities. The body search of the passenger led to the recovery of 15.6 kg of Gold worth Rs. 8 Crores and foreign currency including Saudi Riyals, Euro and Yen etc. equivalent to Pak. Rs. 13.72 Crores. The gold was artfully concealed in a vest, wrapped around his body having pockets filled with gold bars, whereas the foreign currency notes were wrapped around his legs along the ankles.

The accused has been put under arrest. After the assessment and seizure the currency has been detained for Verification. An FIR has also been lodged with the relevant law enforcement agency.
