Pakistan High Commission Malaysia Proactively Helping the Pakistani Community

Islamabad: The Pakistan High Commission in Malaysia is providing speedy welfare and consular services to the Pakistanis on regular basis like provision of out passes, re issuance of passports in lieu of stolen or lost passports, resolution of issues of Pakistani workers with employers, provision of attestation services and repatriation of detained Pakistanis, says a press release received here today from Malaysia.

The High Commissioner for Pakistan in Malaysia, Mr. Masood Khalid soon after assuming the charge in August last year had advised all the wings of the High Commission to be proactive and forth coming to resolve the issues confronted by the Pakistanis in Malaysia.

In line with this approach, the Community Welfare Officer has paid thirty four (34) visits in the last six months to detention camps located in peninsula Malaysia and to Sabah and Sarawak to provide consular services to over 171 Pakistanis who were serving their detention term due to various immigration related violations.

The Community Welfare Officer during his visits facilitated telephonic conversation of our compatriots with their families back home, met certain personal requirements including medical facilities, delivered passport application forms and helped them in completing pre-departure formalities like provision of travel documents and air tickets to those Pakistanis whose detention terms were nearing completion. In addition, Pakistanis who mistakenly had overstayed in Malaysia were provided with all out assistance to regularize their overstay

The Community Welfare Wing also kept a close liaison with the Malaysian Immigration authorities for expeditious repatriation of Pakistanis and motivating the well off Pakistani Expatriates to contribute generously to meet the expenditure on repatriation of destitute and deserving detainees.

The High Commission has urged the Pakistanis to be aware of agents mafia, and before starting their journey to Malaysia to contact the relevant Government authorities in Pakistan and Malaysia besides equipping them with immigration and work rules applicable to Pakistanis in Malaysia.

The Community Welfare Wing also cautioned the Pakistani Overseas Promoters to desist from entertaining any demand from Malaysia which was not endorsed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and issued by the Ministry of Interior Malaysia and not routed through the Pakistan High Commission in Malaysia to avoid exploitation of the workers at the hands of fake recruitment agents and ghost employers.

As per estimates there are around thirty nine thousand (39,000) Pakistanis living in Malaysia, including 28,000 workers, 3,000 students and 8,000 expatriates in other categories.
