Pakistan, Korea sign future road map to strengthen relations

Islamabad, January 31, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan and Korea after holding meeting of Defence Industries and Logistic Joint Committee at the Ministry of Defence Production, Rawalpindi signed a future road map to strengthen relations.

Additional Secretary Ministry Defence Production, Maj Gen Tariq Rashid Khan HI (M) and Mr. Kim Hul-Soo, Director General, Defence Promotion Bureau led the respective sides. The minutes of the meeting were signed and a future path for further collaboration in the field of defence production was chalked out.

The meeting discussed wide ranging agenda points related to Defence Production Establishments of two countries including variety of defence related subjects through formal presentations and discussions. Areas related to military capacity building, defence industrial potential and regional security were comprehensively discussed with the Korean side.

Korea and Pakistan have been collaborating in the past. Korea has provided assistance to Pakistan in various fields of defence production. Both sides exhibited strong desire and will to continue engagements and endeavor to cooperate and assist each other in related fields of military cooperation.

During the two day visit the Korean delegation held meetings with the officials of the ministry. The visiting Director General from the Korean side said that Pakistan and Korea have great potential and the two countries can come together to collaborate in the field of Defence Production. He expressed his views during the call on with Secretary Defence Production Lt. Gen (Retd) Shahid Iqbal.

Secretary Defence Production highlighted the need to identify areas of cooperation which can help to further strengthen bilateral ties between Republic of Korea and Pakistan. He added that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Korea and Pakistan is keen to take bilateral relations to new heights.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the progressing ties between the two countries. Additional Secretary Ministry Defence Production thanked the Korean side for their continued support. The Director General Defence Production Bureau Korea also thanked the Additional Secretary Defence Production for warm hospitality and organizing a detailed visit to Pakistan defence production establishments. The visit helped in gaining insight into the defence industry of Pakistan.
