Islamabad: Pakistan will continue to play a principled and proactive role in building bridges guided by sincerity of intent and clarity of purpose for immediate de-escalation in the region. This was stated by Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tahir Andrabi, at his weekly media briefing in Islamabad today. The Spokesperson emphasized the country's commitment to engaging constructively with relevant regional stakeholders to advocate for immediate de-escalation, cessation of hostilities, and a peaceful resolution.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is personally leading Pakistan's diplomatic outreach to promote dialogue and understanding among all concerned parties. His recent public messaging has received wider international acknowledgment, including from the leadership of the United States. The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Asaq Dar, has also maintained robust engagement with his counterparts across the region and beyond to further these efforts.
Tahir Andrabi expressed concern over the circulation of speculation and unverified reports in certain media sections regarding developments in the region. He stressed the importance of discretion, patience, and confidentiality in diplomacy, urging all parties and media platforms to exercise responsibility and rely solely on official channels for accurate information.
In response to a question about the Indian Ministry of External Affairs' reaction to Pakistan's stance on the sentencing of Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders, the Spokesperson dismissed the Indian statement. He stated that India cannot conflate legitimate political dissent with terrorism, highlighting concerns about the impartiality of India's judicial process. The Spokesperson reiterated Pakistan's condemnation of the sentencing of prominent Kashmiri political leaders, describing the verdict as a pattern of political vendetta.
Commenting on a recent statement by the Indian Minister of External Affairs, the Foreign Office Spokesperson noted that such rhetoric indicates frustration. He emphasized Pakistan's approach, which is anchored in restraint and decorum rather than rhetorical excesses.
