Pakistan Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association rejects reduction in gas supply to Re-rolling industry and said it would prove last nail in the coffin
Lahore, December 06, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association (PSRMA) has rejected the massive reduction in gas supply to the Re-rolling industry and said that it would prove last nail in the coffin as only 2-day gas supply would force the millers to close down their operations.
In a press statement issued here Thursday, the Vice chairman Pakistan Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association Mian Murad Ashraf said that there is no logic of gas suspension to the Steel Re-Rolling Mills as a large number of CNG stations are closed.
He said that 5-day gas load shedding for Steel Re-Rolling mills would also badly affect the dependent industries of steel sector include agriculture, implement, surgical instruments, tractor spare parts, power looms, sewing machine, electric fans appliances, light engineering, housing and construction whom raw material is being provided by the re-rolling industry.
He said that we are running industry in the Province of Punjab since 1947 and being an industrialist no concern with Politics or Provincialism but sorry to say our industry in Punjab is facing the element of discrimination in gas supply when whole Pakistan is benefited with the products being manufactured in Punjab then distribution of gas supply must be in accordance with the size of industry and not according to the area of a Province. Our industry is paying revenue to the Federation of Pakistan as such protection of our rights is the responsibility of Federation of Pakistan.
Mian Murad Ashraf said that furnace oil is an expensive choice and would result in hike of prices of all the steel products.
He said that Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources had many times admitted that the gas crisis are due to theft of gas. PSRMA is repeatedly bringing this painful issue of theft into the notice of concerned higher authorities for taking severe action against the thieves along with responsible of SNGPL who are facilitating the culprits in theft of Gas of billions of rupees every year. But sorry to said the concerned has closed the eyes ever this national crime.
He urged the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to play their due role and direct the concerned authorities to restore gas of steel industry and save near half million of workers and their families from starvation.
