Pakistan, US pledge joint efforts for sustainable Afghan refugee solution


Minister for States and Frontier Regions Amir Muqam has expressed Pakistan’s commitment to cooperate with the United States and international community to devise a sustainable solution for Afghan refugees.

He was talking to US Ambassador Donald Blome, who called on him, in Islamabad today.

The Minister called for creating conducive circumstances in Afghanistan for repatriation of Afghan refugees and further stressed the need to expand the volume of US aid for Afghan refugees’ hosting communities.

Commenting on the meritorious sacrifices of Pakistan in the war against terrorism, Amir Muqam said Pakistan has suffered a loss of around one hundred and fifty billion dollars couple with the loss of precious lives of seventy thousand people till 2001.

Matters pertaining to the overall welfare of Afghan refugees and areas of bilateral cooperation were discussed in the meeting.

On his part, the Ambassador acknowledged the backlash of war against terror faced by Pakistan especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baloch
istan.

He also commended Pakistan for hosting millions of Afghan refugees.

Donald Blome reiterated the US willingness to cooperate with Pakistan in improving its overall economic progress and boosting textile exports.
