PM Directs Strategy to Export Surplus Food to Gulf Countries

Lahore: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities concerned to ensure complete monitoring of supply and demand of food items to safeguard national food requirements. Presiding over a meeting to review the country's food situation in Lahore today, he said disruption in global supply chains has created increased opportunities for Pakistani products in regional markets.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of focusing on the food needs of Gulf countries while ensuring their food security. The meeting was informed that Pakistan currently possesses sufficient stocks of food commodities, with no shortages of any essential items in the country.

Shehbaz Sharif instructed the formulation of a comprehensive strategy for the export of surplus food items to Gulf countries, ensuring that domestic food needs remain unaffected. He stressed the need for maintaining high-quality standards in the export of food products to the friendly Gulf States.

Additionally, the Prime Minister called upon the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to take necessary steps to facilitate the export of food items to Gulf countries through sea routes. Officials at the meeting noted that Pakistan's agricultural sector, including crops, meat, poultry, dairy, and seafood, holds significant export potential.

To ensure a coordinated approach, the Prime Minister directed the formation of a committee to review the food export situation on a daily basis. He also instructed Pakistan's Ambassadors and trade officers in Gulf countries to actively promote exports from Pakistan.
