Polish State Distinction in Mining Sector conferred on Dr. Asim Hussain, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources
Islamabad: Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Mr. Waldemar Pawlak conferred this morning the title “Person of Merit for Mining in the Republic of Poland” on Dr. Asim Hussain, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources. This state distinction has been bestowed on the Minister in recognition of his meritorious services rendered for the development of mining industry and for strengthening Pakistan-Poland bilateral cooperation in the field.
The ceremony was preceded by Minister’s meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister which focused on signing an Agreement/MoU on ways and means of further enhancing bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector and auto sector of the two countries.
The Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources who is on a two day visit to Warsaw at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, later visited the area of Bonikowo in western Poland to inspect underground gas storage facilities of PGNiG and shale gas sites of Poland.
Poland is a leader in oil and gas surveying and exploration and world famous companies like Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG), Oil and Gas Exploration Company Krakow (OGEC) and Geo fizyka Krakow have significant investments in Pakistan. Poland is also estimated to have western Europe’s largest reserves of shale gas which is considered relatively cleaner option compared to coal.
The visit of the Federal Minister along with heads of prominent Pakistani oil and gas companies will go a long way in further promoting Pakistan-Poland cooperation in the sector and will help government’s efforts to diversify sources for meeting the growing energy needs of the country.
