President Urges Expansion of Public Awareness to Safeguard Banking Customers Against Fraud

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has directed Banking Mohtasib Pakistan to enhance public awareness regarding its services to assist banking customers in safeguarding themselves against fraudulent activities. He made this statement during a meeting with Banking Mohtasib Pakistan Sirajuddin Aziz, who presented the Annual Report 2025 in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the President emphasized the significant role information technology plays in modern banking services and highlighted that a lack of knowledge is leaving customers susceptible to fraudulent activities. He urged the Banking Mohtasib to particularly support women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, low-income communities, and other vulnerable groups in accessing justice.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the Banking Mohtasib received 35,130 complaints in 2025, with an additional 13,793 complaints carried over from the previous year. Out of the 48,923 complaints, 36,280 were resolved, resulting in relief amounting to over 1.8 billion rupees for banking customers.

Furthermore, the President was informed that 21,392 new complaints were registered from January 1 to June 30, 2026, compared to 16,915 in the same period the previous year. In the first half of 2026, 18,482 complaints were addressed, providing monetary relief of 762.76 million rupees to banking customers.
