President Zardari’s meeting with delegation from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences
Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari today called for setting up of a committee comprising of federal secretaries of Health, Finance, Economic Affair Division, Executive Director of PIMS and other stakeholders to prepare a comprehensive plan for revamping and upgrading Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad.
This he said during his meeting with the delegation of PIMS who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr today.
Prof. Mehmood Jamal, Executive Director PIMS , Dr. Jehanzeb Khan, Prof Iqbal Memon, Prof. M. Tariq, Prof. Ghias-u-Din Butt, Prof. Iqbal Saifullah, Dr. Badar-us-Samad, Ms. Sumera Malik, Dr. Saqlain Shah, Dr. Shaheed Siddiqui, Mr. Abdullah Khan and Nurse Ms. Shazia were part of the delegation among other doctors, specialists and nurses.
Mr. Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Health Minister, Mr. M. Salman Faruqui, Secretary General, Secretary Health Ms. Nargis Sethi and DG Health Mr. Asad Hafeez also attended the meeting besides other senior officials.
The President was informed during the meeting that PIMS Islamabad was established in 1985 and since then it has been providing tertiary care services to general public. It has more than 1000 beds and its out patient load averages at about 5000 patients per day. PIMS is linked to many other satellite hospitals in Islamabad capital territory, together these provide an integrated health care system to the residents and surrounding rural areas, it was told.
The President while appreciating the services provided by PIMS to the general public said that it was high time that the existing facilities at PIMS are upgraded and necessary renovations are undertaken so to enable the institution to provide quality health care to the people of Islamabad and adjoining areas.
The President expressed the hope that after successful resolution of doctor’s issues by the present government—that remained unheard for last two decades—with introduction of new Career Structure for Health Personnel, the doctors’ community would do their best to provide quality health services and facilitate ordinary public and patients, especially the poor.
The delegation also offered Fateha for President’s father late Hakim Ali Zardari.
