Prime Minister Confers National Peace Prize upon Malala Yousufzai
Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has announced to confer National Peace Prize along with a cash reward of rupees five lacs upon Ms. Malala Yousufzai belonging to Swat on her nomination for International Peace Prize for Children in recognition of her services for peace and education.
The Prime Minister extended warm felicitations to Ms. Malala Yousufzai and her family members on the singular achievement.
The Prime Minister directed the Cabinet Division to institute “National Peace Prize” which will be awarded each year to children of less than 18 years of age for contribution towards peace and education in the country.
The Prime Minister also directed the Cabinet Division to formulate detailed rules and procedures for awarding the National Peace Prize.
It may be mentioned here that Ms. Malala Yousufzai was one of the five nominees chosen out of 98 children from 42 countries of the world by the Nobel Laureate Achbishop Desmond Tuto.
It was reported that despite losing the dream prize, Ms. Malala Yousufzai, student of grade 8, is determined to fight for girls’ education and fulfil the noble cause for which she raised her voice. The title was won by a South African handicapped girl.
