Islamabad, February 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): Chairman NADRA Mr. Tariq Malik called on Prime Minster Raja Pervez Ashraf at Prime Minister House and briefed him about the initiatives taken to register the population and engaging political parties to motivate citizens for their registration.
The Prime Minster directed Chairman NADRA to issue Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC) to unregistered population on priority basis and ensure that nobody remains disenfranchised in the upcoming general elections.
Mr. Tariq Malik informed the Prime Minister that NADRA has been focusing on Sindh and Baluchistan keeping in view the low registration as compared to other provinces; while they have moved ahead in FATA.
The Chairman apprised the Prime Minister that in order to facilitate women in acquiring CNIC’s NADRA has established 12 women-only centers where only women staff has been deployed across the country.
The Prime Minister said that NADRA should ensure that all registered voters have CNIC’s before the next elections. He also directed Chairman NADRA to initiate an awareness campaign to persuade people to get CNIC’s so that they are not disenfranchised.
