Provinces must submit their report on Survey of Markhor Population in their Provinces: Climate Change Minister
Islamabad, December 29, 2017 (PPI-OT):The 6th meeting of CITIES Management Authority held at Ministry of Climate Change chaired by Federal Minister for Climate Change. Federal minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahidullah Khan highlighted during the meeting that provinces must submit written report to federal on population of Markhor on the basis of report Ministry of Climate Change will highlight its case to CITIES Conference of parties to increase trophy hunting quota. He also highlighted that we have no issue of captive breeding of parrots species but they must be managed through legal system.
The representative of Punjab Wildlife department told the participants that population of Urial in Salt range has increased from 2500-3000.local-trophy hunting can be started. The Speaker Balochistan assembly Ms. Raheela Durrani was also present there and told that army has also formed rang in Baluchistan which helped to protect the population of Markhor. She also suggested to provide trainings to officers from Balochistan in wildlife department which was agreed by participant.
The representative of Sindh wildlife Department informed that we have started process of certification of parrots’ breeders in Sindh. Punjab also informed that they issue trading license to breeders and now they are under tax net. The representative from Khyber Pukhtoonhwa told that population of Markhor in Chitral increased from 1944 to 2057. The population fit for trophy hunting increased from 214 to 251.however survey in other places is still under process. The Representatives from Balochistan informed that they lack resources. However population of Markhor in Targhur has increased and estimated between 2200 and 3000.
It was also informed by the inspector General forest that European Union has also put condition of certificate on export of any product made from sheesham. So it was also decided to nominate focal persons from forest department for flora export and certification issues. It was also told that three-year tenure of private members in CITIES Management authority also ended and new members will be selected.
Later Houbara Bustard and Migratory Birds Endowment fund first meeting held and decided that accounting procedures will be decided among members and in next meeting members would come up with recommendation. Members also authorize federal Minister for Climate Change to nominate two private members.
