Lahore: With Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations on the horizon, the Punjab Police, under the leadership of Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, have finalized extensive security measures to ensure the safety of participants across the province. Dr. Anwar has committed to heightened security during the religious observances, which will include closely monitored processions and gatherings, particularly in Lahore, to safeguard against any potential disturbances.
According to Punjab Police announcement issued on 14 September 2024, over 1,581 gatherings and 2,467 processions and rallies are scheduled to take place throughout Punjab, involving more than 55,000 police officers and personnel. In Lahore alone, security will be provided for 255 processions and more than 225 gatherings by over 10,000 officers, personnel, and volunteers. The police will employ a mix of traditional and modern resources, including the Traffic Police, Elite Forces, Special Branch, and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) to manage the security operations.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar stressed the implementation of strict security protocols for all events, classifying them into categories A, B, and C, as per the standard operating procedures already in place. Events in sensitive areas will be additionally monitored through Safe City cameras, and there will be a focus on real-time security monitoring from specially established control rooms. Dr. Anwar also directed that peace committees, scholars, and community leaders be engaged to incorporate their insights and ensure community-involved security planning.
