Punjab University declares BA/BSc Annual Exam 2011 result

Lahore: Punjab University on Friday declared BA/BSc Annual Examination 2011 results and organized a ceremony in honour of position holders here at the Faisal Auditorium. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran was the chief guest while Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Akhtar, Controller Examinations Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Additional Controller Ahmad Ali Chattha, Treasurer Dr Uzma Ikram, senior faculty members, position holder students, their parents and principals of respective colleges were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said that educated nations were powerful and ruling the country and urged the Muslims to realize the value of education. He said all the spiritualism led to education and that’s why Muslim Ulemas had been declared equal to the Prophets of Bani Israel. He said sectarianism and those involved in killing each other had no link with Islam. He said America spent seven percent of its GDP on education whereas Pakistan even did not consume two percent of its GDP. The Vice-Chancellor requested the rulers to allocate at least four percent of GDP for education. Dr Mujahid Kamran said Pakistan was the only country who can change the lines of history.

He said the expulsion of capital group from the region was possible if Pakistan could play an appropriate role. Advising the students, he asked them to adopt such a career which aimed at creating new knowledge because this was a great service of Islam. The Vice-Chancellor said Pakistani students enjoyed a lot of talent but unfortunately there was nobody who could put them on right track. He asked the students to read Allama Iqbal. Discussing about the increasing number of female students in gradation, Dr Mujahid Kamran said the PU had carried out a survey and according to initial results boys could not complete their studies due to financial constraints whereas girls were ambitious to come forward.

The Vice-Chancellor also presented cheques amounting to rupees Rs 100,000/-, Rs 75,000/- and Rs 65,000/- as cash reward to the students who attained first, second and third positions respectively in the BA/BSc exam 2011 and also presented shields to the principals of their respective colleges. This year all the three leading positions in BSc have been clinched by female students. While in BA, a female student clinched first while second and third positions were grabbed by male students. Dr Kamran also announced a cash award of Rs three lacs for Examination Branch employees who had worked day and night to prepare results within a short period.

Earlier, Controller Examinations Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, in his welcome address, paid glowing tribute to VC Dr Mujahid Kamran for his assistance for purchase of latest computers, construction of additional rooms and purchase of furniture for the Examination Branch. He said this year a total number of 153688 candidates appeared in the BA/BSc exam out which 52396 were declared successful, indicating a pass percentage of 34.09.

In BSc exam, Rida Arshad of Govt College for Women Toba Tek Singh with 682 marks secured the 1st position, Arfa Waseem of Superior Science College Satellite Town Gujranwala with 677 marks grabbed second while Sadia Parveen of Al-Beruni Government College Pind Dadan Khan with 668 marks won third position. Similarly, in BA exam, external candidate from Shahdara Lahore Iqra Abbas with 668 marks clinched first position, external candidate from Bahawalpur District Muhammad Zahid Zaheer Iqbal with 665 marks secured second while external candidate from Shadbagh Lahore Muhammad Hamza with 664 marks grabbed third position.
