Punjab University faculty member gets Higher Education Commission funded post-doctoral award 2010
Lahore: Punjab University Department of History faculty member Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chawla had been awarded HEC funded Post Doctoral Award (2010-2011). He is the first in the history of Department of History who received the award. He worked on a project which re-examined Lord Mountbatten’s role at the time of the Independence of Pakistan and the 1947 Partition of the Indian subcontinent.
Dr Chawla not only benefited from invaluable guidance of Prof Ian Talbot, an authority on modern South Asian history especially Pakistan , but from that of a range of UK based scholars. He presented two papers in the conferences held in Cambridge and Southampton.
Dr Chawla already has in his credit numerous research articles in HEC approved journals and a book. Oxford University Press will be publishing his second book on Lord Wavell, the second last viceroy of India , in June this year.
While doing post-doctoral programme, Dr Chawla submitted five papers for publications in the international research journals in UK , USA and Australia . Prof Dr Iqbal Chawla will be able to produce a full length book which will provide a more nuanced understanding of Mountbatten’s role as Viceroy regarding Muslim interests than has existed hitherto.
