Punjab University Organizes Higher Education Commission’s Social Science committee meeting
Lahore: Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre (PSC), in collaboration with History Department, organized a meeting of Higher Education Commission’s Social Science Committee on History which was presided over by Prof Dr S. Qalb-i-Abid.
The Committee discussed the ways and means to promote the discipline of History, Pakistan Studies and Social Sciences at University levels. Research journals published in the discipline of History and Pakistan Studies were reviewed.
Research journals published by the PU were upgraded from Y to X category by the Committee. Journals published by Peshawar University and National Institute of Pakistan Studies, Islamabad were also recommended to be recognized by the HEC.
Decisions were taken to standardize the syllabus of History and Pakistan Studies by removing all dichotomies and discrepancies in the existing syllabus. The Committee recommended the use of new methodologies of teaching including frequently utilization of facilities provided by HEC such as video conferencing and short term and long term local and foreign faculty hiring schemes.
Exchange of students between various universities was also recommended. Holding of international conferences by PU was very much appreciated. Other universities were also asked to utilize the services of PU’s faculty members in this regard. Books published by teachers of various universities were reviewed and it was decided that one book will be equivalent to two research papers in ‘X’ category of HEC’s recognized research journals.
It was decided that the titles / topics of MPhil and PhD theses and research in progress will be given in the websites of each department. The PhD dissertations and articles published in research journals will be sent to eminent experts for evaluation from the academically advanced countries.
